What is #FortWorth Safe?

Fort Worth Police Chief Neil Noakes

What is #FortWorthSafe?

Fort Worth Family,

Over the last year we have seen an unfortunate increase in violent crime in our community. In the month of April 2021 alone, we saw multiple shootings where innocent bystanders were caught in the cross-fire. As a community we need to stand together and fight for our city: this is OUR FORT WORTH. We must work together and show those who engage in this type of violent criminal activity, it will not be tolerated.

As a community, our primary focus should always be on the safety of our city and the well-being of our community and officers. To accomplish this, it is vital that we partner together to make Fort Worth Safe for all.

Therefore, I want to introduce #FortWorthSafe. This is a crime reduction operation focused on violent crimes such as homicide, robbery, shootings and aggravated assault. #FortWorthSafe will include an enforcement component as well as a community outreach component, which will address deficiencies in communities that increase the likelihood of violent crime occurring.

Some of the enforcement efforts will include:

  • An intelligence-led approach utilizing all our technology resources and our Real-Time Crime Center to help us be flexible and able to quickly adapt to any given situation.
  • Officers working this initiative 7 days a week with the hours of the operating being dependent upon the criminal activity that is occurring.
  • Continually evaluating crime trends and data each day of the detail. The intelligence we analyze will assist us in concentrating our efforts on the sources of the violent criminal activity.
  • The Gang Unit focusing on known gang members and those with prior gun arrests.
  • Enhancing enforcement on game rooms in the selected crime locations.
  • Criminal Tracking Unit and Fugitive Unit focusing on arresting violent offenders as soon as our investigators obtain arrest warrants in order to get those offenders off the streets more quickly.

The Community aspect will include:

  • A day-time rotational list of Neighborhood Police Officers (NPOs) from around the city to assist with community policing efforts.  These NPOs will be talking with the business owners and citizens, as well as interacting with young people, to make them aware of our effort and #FortWorthSafe.
  • End of school year plans to have School Resource Officers work alongside our NPOs in selected areas to enhance our community policing efforts and safety around schools.
  • Soliciting community input to address concerns with violent crime and transparency about operations occurring in their community (see link below).
  • Utilizing a communications plan to share our efforts with the community through the Public Information Office on #FortWorthSafe results.
  • Supporting community capacity development by connecting residents with resources that will enhance the safety, wellness and resiliency of their community.

To be transparent with our community we’ve chosen to use this method of communication to share information on #FortWorthSafe, and to keep you well informed of the results. During this initiative you will see an increase in visible patrol activity in order to deter and prevent violent crime.  We will be focusing on areas experiencing high levels of violent crime, and we will be entering in a spirit of cooperation and collaboration with the great citizens in those neighborhoods.

#FortWorthSafe will be fluid and dynamic while responding to the needs of our community. Please continue to check this site for additional information.
